Another 7 Small Ways You can Help the Environment Today
March 16th, 2008
This is part 3, of a series of blog posts, showing you little things you can do to help the environment today.
In part 1 – Small Ways to Help the Environment Today, we covered things like reusing carrier bags, saving water and planting trees. In Part 2 – 7 More Ways You can Help the Environment Today, we looked at car pooling, switching of lights when you are not using them, and buying recycled items to name a few, but you can always read over those again later.
Let’s get on with today’s recommended seven environmentally friendly actions.
It’s getting near Spring now, so make sure you lower those thermostats, if it’s still too cold, wear a coat indoors and in doing so remember you are doing your small bit for the environment.
Saving water is becoming very important, as reservoirs dry up and droughts become more frequent. So another way you cam save water is fill up a bottle or two with water and stones, and put them in your toilet cistern, so that each time you flush, you are saving water, as no so much will be needed to refill the cistern.
Buying bottled water produces more plastic waste, so an alternative healthy way to drink water is to use tap water, which you put through a filter first before drinking.
In one of the previous blog posts, I mentioned taking bags with you when you go shopping, so you don’t have to get new ones. When I wrote it I meant reusing plastic bags, but it’s even better if you get some cloth bags to use for shopping, as these will last a whole lot longer.
If you are a gardener, why not make your own compost. This is environmentally friendly way of getting rid of organic and garden waste. Actually, the local authority in my area has a recycle bin collection especially for garden waste, maybe it is the same case for you?
Unplugging your electrical appliances, when you don’t use them a few times a day, is a great way of saving energy, which benefits both your bill and the environment!
Although joining a local environmental group can be time consuming, it’s thoroughly worth it. You will feel good, even though you are picking up someone else’s litter, that you are helping the environment.
Lastly don’t forget to recycle those tires, so we can make loads of rubber mulch, and do our bit for the environment too!
