Benefits of Rubber Mulch
The invention of rubber mulch has solved many of our problems. First of all, the mounds of discarded rubber tires were threatening to become an imploding environmental disaster till several years ago. Secondly, the quest for different mulches for agricultural and gardening requirements was causing more and more trees being cut, resulting in another kind of ecological degradation. Rubber mulch has killed both the birds with the proverbial single stone.
For making rubber mulch, used rubber tire treads are processed under high temperature and pressure to remove chemical and metallic impurities and then grounded into crumbs. The resultant material is well suited as ground cover for a plethora of operations. It prevents harmful growth of pests, weeds and prevents soil erosion and loss of sub-soil moisture. Unlike other mulches like pine needles, wood shavings etc, it does not decay easily. It can be maintained easily and you need not worry about storms and rain washing away the rubber granules.
Colored mulches add color to the environs and are very well suited for gardening. Slugs, termites and other pests do not come near areas covered with rubber mulch. Playground mulch acts as soft cushions in playgrounds, equestrian arena and training fields. Overall, rubber mulch has proved itself as a very useful and environment friendly material in its short period of existence so far.
