Rubber mulch is made from recycled rubber tires. It is an environmentally-friendly material because it makes practical use of a product that would otherwise end up in the waste stream. Rubber mulch is not only used in gardens, but also as a safe surface for playgrounds, arenas, and athletic fields. It is versatile, durable, and can be found in a range of colors from bright blue to earthy red. There are many reasons that rubber mulch is an efficient, ideal surface material. There are concerns as well, especially when it is used in gardens. Exactly what are all the pros and cons of rubber mulch?

Benefits for Garden Use

Why is rubber mulch considered beneficial in the garden? Unlike other organic mulches, such as pine needles or straw, rubber is relatively heavy and dense. It is not going to blow away or float in heavy rains. Its weight is good for effectively holding in moisture and preventing the growth of weeds. Rubber mulch is also going to remain on the surface of the soil rather than sinking like organic material will eventually do. Because of this rubber lasts much longer than other conventional mulches, remaining useful for years.

Consisting of recycled tires, rubber mulch is not going to attract unwanted pests which could harm plants, or simply be a nuisance. It is also resistant to mold, mildew, and general decay. Rubber is even aesthetically pleasing, with a clean-looking surface that can be cut to fit into most spaces. It provides a low-maintenance, convenient surface to provide the gardening benefits of natural mulches, without the negatives of organic materials.

Today is Earth Day, so happy Earth Day to you and to our earth. It’s been forty years since the first Earth Day and we’ve learned a lot since then.

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.

Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week originated in Philadelphia in 1970 (starting April 16 and culminating on Earth Day, April 22.)

Earth Day Network, a group that wishes to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally, asserts that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on virtually every country on Earth.

World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 in a different nation every year, is the principal United Nations environmental observance.

Forty years after the first Earth Day, the world is in greater peril than ever. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents the greatest opportunity – an unprecedented opportunity to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future.

Earth Day 2010 can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Earth Day Network is galvanizing millions who make personal commitments to sustainability. Earth Day 2010 is a pivotal opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day.

Arbor Day (from the Latin feminine noun arbor, simply meaning tree) is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. It originated in the United States in 1872. Many countries now observe it on various dates, depending on climate and suitable planting season, usually in the spring.

Environment friendly.

Many cities now extend the observance of Earth Day events to an entire week, usually starting on April 16 and ending on Earth Day, April 22. These events are designed to encourage environmentally-aware behaviors, such as recycling, using energy efficiently, and reducing or reusing disposable items.

Bottom line we are all working to improve our environment:

Recycle article from EarthTimes RubbeRecycle donates Rubber Mulch in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day.

On Arbor Day cities across the country will celebrate by cleaning up parks and planting trees. In honor of the day, RubbeRecycle donated and installed rubber mulch for a playground used by a local Little League team to both save trees and increase safety for our kids.

The playground is used by the siblings and friends of the Toms River, New Jersey, East Little League Team. The safety surface was engineered wood fiber that was continuously an issue. It was always wet and in need of yearly replenishment. RubbeRecycle worked with the Toms River Little League to put in a new rubber surface to increase the safety, safe money on yearly replenishment costs and to do their part by saving beautiful trees from unnecessary destruction.

“The playground that the younger children can play on while their siblings and friends play baseball had some serious safety concerns,” said Toms River East Little League Safety Director, Dr. Frank Sommerer. Dr. Sommerer is the clinical director of Shore Pointe Chiropractic in Toms River and has been in private practice for 20 years. He has served as team Chiropractic Physician for the Lakewood BlueClaws, the minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies since their inception. He is also a team Chiropractor for the Toms River East baseball program and for many other area high schools, recreational teams and organizations.

Dr. Sommerer states,”The playground mulch that we have been using was in constant need of replenishment. Despite our drainage system, it was always damp and retaining moisture. As our season opener was approaching, I noticed that the playground surface seemed very hard. It seemed that although early spring was upon us, the nights were still dipping near freezing causing our safety surface to freeze.” After researching wood fiber, I learned that many of these manufacturers claim this potentially life threatening flaw in tiny, hidden disclaimers.

As the Safety Director and a doctor, he was concerned. “I see plenty of bone injuries in my practice and felt that we needed a better solution. We decided that wood fiber was no longer a safe or environmentally sound choice for our children. We chose to use “Playsafer” rubber mulch manufactured by Rubberecycle. I immediately noticed a difference. The surface is unbelievably soft and dry! I feel comfortable knowing that our children are much safer while playing on the tot lot.”

Rubberecycle rubber mulch is a unique product that consists of granular rubber particles, also referred to as rubber chunks, nuggets and shredded rubber. Playground mulch tire chips conform to all CPSC safety guidelines and has earned ADA approval, making playgrounds safe for our children while preserving the environment. It’s available in an array of vibrant colors to enhance your playground. Playground Rubber Mulch’s effectiveness in reducing playground injuries has been proven as a safe playground safety surface, so parents can now relax while their children are having a great time!

Happy Earth Day from Rubberecycle rubber mulch! We turn recycled tires into practical and safe solutions for playgrounds, landscaping and more.

Have you ever imagined about the utility of these old tires. They are of no use and very harmful for our society. Rubber mulch is created from rotten and useless tires. By manufacturing rubber mulch we are utilizing old tires and useless rubber. As we know there are multiple uses of rubber mulch. It can be used to cover playgrounds. Rubber mulch is also used for the purpose of landscaping. It can also used as an artificial grass. By using mulch we can prevent a major environmental catastrophe.

The good news is that the rubber mulch is completely biodegradable. It doesn’t harm the soil of your garden or back ground. Do you want to get rid of weeds from your garden? Rubber mulch can help a lot in hampering the growth of weeds and harmful plants.

There are many used of mulch but there are many things which should be considered before buying rubber mulch for your home or office. So do an extensive research before buying anything new. In this way you will save some time as well as money. Biodegradable, but these granules prevent loss of moisture and nutrients from the

Being the leader in the tire recycling industry, rubber mulch produces recycled products thereby assisting to protect our environment. It makes use of tire recycled ground rubber for landscaping, playground flooring and horse arena footing. Many are opting for it as the safest and most economical choice due to its supple, sturdy and long lasting qualities.

Innumerable number of tires is discarded every year and some of these are used to produce rubber mulch. In order to make one square foot of rubber mulching, about 80 old tires are needed. Its superior shock absorption quality makes it the best option available for playgrounds. Though the cost may be higher than traditional mulch, it lasts for a longer duration of time.

When it comes to the matter of using rubber mulch in your garden, you have to be careful. There are chances that it will leak chemicals into your soil. Zinc is the common chemical that can be leaked. Naturally found in soil, too much or too little of Zinc can adversely affect the quality of your top soil. There are advantages also in putting rubber mulching in your garden – it does not attract termites or carpenter ants and will not be washed away in a rainstorm.

Rubber mulch is derived after cleaning and granulating used rubber tires. This has prevented the uncontrollable accumulation of used tires and has thus prevented an environmental catastrophe.

The material prevents growth of weeds and pest growth.

It does not decay like other mulches. As such, it keeps the area clean, free of foul odor. Other mulches send out foul smell, aid in pest growth and once they decay, would form an impermeable layer under the surface soil thereby preventing drainage of excess water.

It is durable, easy to install and economic to maintain.

Natural elements like wind and rain cannot drain away the material easily like other mulches.

It is easy to buy and install. It is cheaper than conventional mulches.

It saves plants from crawling pests like slugs.

These qualities make rubber mulch superior to any other mulch. There are actually no valid reasons why we should not use this in agricultural operations.

There are two schools of thought on this issue. One thought says that it is beneficial to use rubber mulch. The manufacturers of rubber mulch have commissioned this study. On the other hand, an independent school of thought says that it is toxic and dangerous.

These are very harmful to the environment when disposed in their original form. However, they are recycled through chemical process and rubber mulches are obtained whose applications are bountiful. One could never come to a conclusion on the limit of its usage. The prime usage is found on the playgrounds and landscaping. Playgrounds have the rubber mulches on their top surface which acts like a cushioned material. It prevents from getting injured during a fall.

<o> </o>

Rubber mulches are the apt materials to be applied for landscaping. They offer a marvelous look and a splendid presence to the play area. They come in various colors and sizes. They prevent the growth of weeds and prevent soil erosion. The showers cannot play the spoilsport anymore as they completely absorb the water. However, there are certain controversies revolve around rubber mulches. Scientists say that it may damage the roots of the plants by preventing the entry of nutrients in the soil. The by-product is harmful for the children and others who use the mulches. However, these allegations are not proved right and even the First Lady of United States has given her support for the use of rubber mulches.

Rubber mulch is a long lasting alternative when compared to wood mulch. Available in different natural and trendy colors they sometimes resemble wood chips and shredded wood mulch. They are also available in different shapes and sizes and also in the form of chips, pellets, shreds and wedges. Rubber mulch is made by, the process of devulcanization wherein the tiers are frayed and made to go thermal treatment and also treated with softening agents and other chemicals. The steel wires from the recycled tires are removed through magnetization and then the rubber mulch is dyed in different colors. Rubber mulch does not fade or blow away and also never decomposes, so it does not require replacements every year. You can use these rubber mulches in gardens where one can cover the flowerbeds by setting 1 to 2 inches of rubber mulch over the beds. The mulch inhibits the weed growth while allowing the water and other nutrients to reach the plant. They can also be used over driveways and walkways to reduce the dust and the noise. Being a great shock absorber it also finds use in playgrounds and other areas.
