Children and Health: Encouraging Fitness in Your Backyard
It’s great if your children are active in community sports or are part of athletic teams in school. Although they are given the time to formally train, children usually get jitters before a competition like pro athletes do. They’d like to practice as much as they can. It is a good idea to provide them with a venue to train at home.
This way, you can supervise them, encourage them, and even train with them—it’s also like having a playground at home. Bringing training to your backyard can even encourage the rest of your family to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Work out a schedule
You wouldn’t want your children neglecting their homework. Sit and agree on how much time per day to allot on training. Consider that they might be too tired for homework if you schedule training first. On the other hand, a bit of physical activity could stimulate the brain. Figure out which works best for your child and strike a balance. What works for one child might not work for another.
Make your backyard conducive to sports
You don’t need to spend much on equipment. There are a lot of DIY sources online with easy steps to follow. The most you’ll need is space, which you already have. If you decide to buy one or two pieces of equipment, make sure they’re the adjustable kind so that everyone can use them regardless of fitness level. Make it safe
Grass is nice and soft. However, there could be issues concerning dirt, grass stains, grass cuts and allergies. Rubber mulch makes good flooring for sports and recreation. It breaks falls and absorbs impact. Best of all, rubber mulch is non-toxic. You can choose from a lot of colors to match garden furniture or sports equipment.
