Tips to Train Varsity Teams on Rubber Mulch

As a varsity or school league coach, your greatest fear is to have an injured star player for most of the season. At the same time, you also find yourself concerned about your reserve players because the team needs more of their support as your team rises up the league chart.
Safety in training is of primary importance. No matter how well your athletes can go through the motions of their sport or how good your on-site medics are, it is always preferred that accidents be kept to a minimum—close to zero.
Below are 2 tips on how you can incorporate rubber mulch in your team’s regular training so that your athletes can break through psychological barriers without being reckless.
1. Install rubber mulch flooring
Rubber mulch is very reliable when it comes to absorbing impact. No matter which way your athlete falls, rubber mulch can help break your athlete’s fall. Of course, training them on the proper way to tuck and roll is still very important.
Rubber mulch comes in different colors, allowing you to recreate specific arena or court sections and base lines. This can help your athletes go past their mental blocks and try new things without hurting themselves.
2. Fill pads with rubber mulch instead of foams or air beans
Pads wrapped around metal posts are usually filled with foam layers or air beans. Although these work well in absorbing impact, athletes usually bounce off the pads without control. Players could end up injured from bouncing away from the pads.
Replacing the pads’ fillings with rubber mulch can lessen the bounce effect without lessening their capability to absorb impact. Best of all, rubber mulch doesn’t become flat or shredded over time unlike foam.
Rubber mulch is weatherproof, requiring little to no maintenance. This means that you can incorporate these rubber mulch tips even when you do most of your training outdoors.
